How to use a face shape detector?

Start with a photo the detector can read

The photo does most of the work. A straight-on shot in even light gives the landmark detector clean edges to measure. A tilted, backlit selfie gives it guesswork.

• Face the camera straight on with your head level and both ears visible.
• Use even, front-facing light. Overhead light drops shadows under the cheekbones and jaw, which shifts the measurements.
• Pull your hair back off your forehead, cheeks, and jawline.
• Keep a neutral expression with your mouth closed. A wide smile lifts the cheeks and widens the lower face.
• Take off glasses, hats, and anything covering your hairline or chin.
• Skip beauty filters. Smoothing and slimming effects reshape the outline the detector measures.

Read your result

The readout comes in three parts, and the numbers tell you more than the label does.

• The shape: oval, round, square, oblong, heart, or diamond.
• The measurements: face length against face width, cheekbone width against jaw width, forehead width, and the angle of the jaw.
• The confidence score: how cleanly your proportions fit the shape it picked. A low score usually means you sit between two shapes.

Turn the result into decisions

A label on its own changes nothing. What matters is the next choice: which haircut lengths balance your proportions, which frame shapes contrast with your jaw, where contour lands. Feature tabs break down your eyes, eyebrows, lips, and nose separately, so you can check one feature without rerunning the analysis.

If the result looks wrong

Most odd results trace back to the photo. Retake it with your hair tied back, your chin level, and the camera at eye height, then run it again.

Hold the camera at arm's length or further away. Close-range selfies stretch the middle of the face and can push a round result toward heart.
